ultra music festival doesn't belong on virginia key
We have nothing against music festivals. Music festivals are lots of fun in the appropriate place; an enclosed, sound controlled arena is a good suggestion. Ultra wasn't good for Bayfront Park, an outdoor area near residential areas, and was moved because of complaints. Ultra isn't good for Virginia Key for even more reasons:
BAYFRONT PARK COMPLAINTS APPLY TO VIRGINIA KEY
BAYFRONT PARK COMPLAINTS APPLY TO VIRGINIA KEY
- Unrelenting load noise for three days and nights.
- Traffic snarls and congestion.
- Disruption of residential life causing many to flee their homes for the duration.
- Wildlife endangerment in the water and air.
- Noise pollution - too close to the Bill Sadowski Wildlife protection area and UM Experimental Hatchery of the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
- Water taxi pollution and noise
- Damage to Virginia Key's fragile environmental ecosystem.
- Unique traffic concerns due to only one road into and out of Virginia Key and Key Biscayne.
- Residents of Key Biscayne are virtual prisoners on their island while Ultra is under way - unless they have a boat.
- Regular users of the basin, many dues paying members, are shut out of use of their club or equipment.
